I'm glad the Fiero didn't look like that:

The 89 coupe began to evolve into something like that.  Reminded me of the Buick Reatta.
There are three kinds of men:

1.    The ones that learn by reading.
2.    The few who learn by observation.
3.    The rest of them have to pee on the electric fence and find out for themselves.    Will Rogers

Last one isn't bad looking.  Best '89 I've ever seen.  And I see the Reatta-look.

Yes, the bottom 2 bear more than a passing resemblance to a Reatta, but are the same model.  The top one is the 2+2, which is now a fastback.

The top one was only a buck.  Not a real car.  The other two were concept drawings.  This is the real car.

I met a guy at one of the Polar Bear Runs who was into Reattas.  He also thought the design came from Pontiac.

I don't believe so.  Those are totally different cars.  The top one (2-tone brown) has a back seat.  It's an '84.  The bottom 2 are clay models.

You're correct.  I saved the images a year or two ago from an article on the concept cars.  The top one does have the bumper pads, but it might have been as late as 85.  I don't believe there was an 86 base coupe with pads, was there?  I wouldn't think they'd be playing with a 4-seater in the initial stages of the car.

GM made one 2+2.  It was originally 2 separate cars.  The purpose was to show the strength of the space frame.  Its V6 is an early model, and no recalls have been performed on it.  GM had a bunch of extra '84 models with no VIN's sitting around that couldn't be licensed, so GM put them to use.

More info here and here.

Charlie, I think there were bumperpads in 86. That was the last of them, probably made so tjey could use up leftover parts

I only saw 57 pages, but cleaned them up a bit.  Future viewers can find them here.

We don't have the PDF plugin on this site (bandwidth reasons), so you'll have to download the full PDF to view.
