Motor Trend's Roadkill article on the Fiero
« on: January 03, 2018, 02:32:00 pm »
I saw this on Pennocks and thought it was a very favorable writeup overall about the Fiero.  Very little naysaying.  I liked the last paragraph most of all.

I wonder how much traffic that's going to drive to our forum? How many people read that?

It was and intresting artical.  It sure was a shame that they killed the project, but then we would not have the bragging rights to say we have one.

Nice that they mentioned GFC.

I'm kinda surprised they mentioned GFC.  Anyone know the author?

Benjamin Hunting is credited with text that was supplemented with pictures from Wikimedia.

Which begs 4 questions:
  • Who is Benjamin Hunting?
  • What prompted him to write the article?
  • Does anyone know him?
  • Why GFC, over all other clubs, including NIFE?

We get mentioned a lot on Pennocks.  I use our name every chance I get to promote us, and I think we have a good site.  NIFE and NTFC have a presence, but NTFC is the one you see mentioned most on PFF.  They post their monthly meeting date each month.  The New England or Florida clubs hardly ever appear.

NIFE as a club barely has a presence on PFF.

Nothing against GFC, and I agree, but I have met members of NIFE, NTFC, and clubs in Colorado, Oklahoma, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Florida, Michigan, and Iowa.  Heck, some of those people have done RFTH.  Many of those clubs have equal merit.  I had mentioned NIFE, because, like PFF, it isn't it regional, despite its name.

GFC has a local identity, which is good.  I find it hard to identify with NIFE.  Put another way, if a given member vanished--including me--the GFC would notice.  Each member plays a part.  I'm not unwelcome at NIFE, but our communication is basically I send dues, and they send me their magazine and say ”hi” when they see me.  If I vanished, they wouldn't notice.  GFC is more like a family, where NIFE is more like a distant group that came to stay at a hotel where I worked.

Anyway, I was curious why they picked a regional club.
