Buzz's new dash
« on: October 27, 2011, 09:05:30 pm »
The gold stuff I had on the dash of my yellow car just wasn't working out. Because it was a metal film, it didn't stretch and shrink with temperature like plastic, so it began to "bubble" more and more. So I replaced it with some "carbon fiber" vinyl film. The new film is not metallic, so it should not bubble, and it has micro-pores in it, so air bubbles don't get under it when you lay it down. Here are some pictures, but they really don't do it justice...

I got the film here.

What size did you get to cover all of it?

BTW: Where did you get the radio adapter?

I got a 12" x 60" roll, and I got the radio mount at humount.com. The "Fiero" above the radio lights up red at night.

Lighting up at night will be real nice. I can't wait to see it Pat.

Huge improvement.  I never cared for the yellow...looked to ricer-ish in my opinion.  Sharon's 85GT had all the trim in yellow when we got it and the first thing we did was switch it back to stock.

I really like how it came out.  I have a friend who got some of that and he has created some nice custom touches.  I checked out the site... They have white.... Hmmmm...  Maybe I can cover some of those ruined interior panels till I find good ones....

What are the red and black buttons between the window switches?

Did you cover the power bezel, also?

Red one is machine gun.  Black is the ejection seat.

I used that film on my truck.  The center post between the doors has plexiglass trim.  A garage tech apparently had brake fluid or other solvent on his hand when he used that panel to close the front door, burning the image of his entire 4 fingers into the plexiglass.  They denied it, so it was left in my lap.

I've heard that the film is very expensive, but I got a roll that was like 30 x 60 inches for $10 or $15.  The micro-pores does make it easy to apply, but I have found that it will still bubble after it's been on for a while.  It looks good from a few feet away, but at arm's length you can really see the bubbles.  Of course, mine is applied on the outside of the vehicle.  Inside might be a different story.  It's been on there for at least 3 or 4 years.

2.    The few who learn by observation.
3.    The rest of them have to pee on the electric fence and find out for themselves.    Will Rogers

The only sticker I got is the hood emblem. I guess I could put that on the glove box.

I have been advised that the 35th nose emblem is not UV resistant.  Apparently, even the 30th emblems have had some issues.
