Fall color tour?
« on: September 14, 2019, 07:15:53 am »
Will the leaves on the trees have good color, this year?

What month is best for a tour of the colors?

Down here time can vary greatly.  It depends upon temps and rainfall, altitude and latitude.  I recently saw a photo posted by one of Melanie's former coworkers.  It was from their back deck, which appeared that the home was high up on a mountainside with an unobstructed view.  The very top of a long-running ridge was bright oranges, yellows, and reds while everything below was still green.

We have had events where the roadways were covered with brown leaves and other runs where the mountainsides of North Georgia were in their full glorious fall colors.  The meteorologists haven't been mentioning fall colors as is their custom, so I expect colors aren't really changing yet.

We have had a lot of water this year, and it has been cool, so I suspect that will affect things.

I'm thinking that the leaves turn further North first.

Last year, whenever it was I drove through the Atlanta area, the leaves were mostly green, but just starting to turn.  Further North, the leaves had turned.

They do.  Higher elevations within a region will also change earlier.  My kin in Maine are already seeing some good colors.
