RFTH Shakedown Run
« on: August 22, 2009, 07:47:12 pm »
For those of you who didn't make it today, you missed a good one.  Mid 80's, and lots of sun, exhaust fumes and tire smoke.

The run is through some beautiful areas of North Carolina, and onto The Dragon in Tennessee.  Lots of rivers and lakes along the way.  Come September, it will be even more scenic with the colors and with fewer leaves on the trees, we should be able to see more of the waters.

John kept trying to show us the rear end of his little GT.  Trouble is that he was bringing up the rear of the pack.  Dean and Ben kept trying to smoke us out on the curves, and me, well, I was just keeping the mosquitos away from everyone with my exhaust.  Only one THP on the Dragon and one at the north end.  The one on the Dragon just stood outside his car and stared at us as we passed.  Both times.

It was a good day.

Did you take the same route as the last pre-run, or make a few changes?

Yes.  That was the final layout.  We just did a real-time run.

Did the route include a couple of detours for an overheated yellow GT and a white SE in a ditch?  Sorry I couldn't make it, but I'll be there for the real thing!

The last time I went on the Dragon, a certain yellow GT with a 4.9 and a ghost Pegasus popped a water pump cap and had us scrambling for out extinguishers.  30 minutes after we left that scene another certain white SE got hot and ended up in the ditch.  A bunch of us were Autobahning to make the dinner that night.

I remember the yellow GT 4.9, I stopped to help and missed the rest of the run that year.

The yellow GT has moved to Florida and Whodeanie is or has worked on the white SE, so the yellow one is out of the picture and the white one is probably in good shape, now.

I asked Ronnie if him and Carolyn were going to ride their bikes this year, but I still haven't herd from them.
