Is anyone using or familiar with PC Matic software?  Melanie had subscribed to an anti-virus software service based in India that apparently uses Norton AV.  They call regularly about the time I leave in the afternoon and want access to my computers so they can clean and optimize it.  I won't allow that when I'm not present.  This service, I have found had a large up front charge plus a $9.99 monthly fee that's on a contract basis that I can't cancel until the end of the yearly contract in February.

I am looking for something that's effective and without all the longterm fees.  PC Matic has a one-time fee of $150.  Is PC Matic an effective AV and Malware fighter?

I just use Microsoft's own free Windows Defender. As long as you follow a few simple rules your computer should be fine.
Don't open any unexpected attachment on an email. If the email seems to be from someone you know, check the header to make sure.
Don't download and play games on  your computer, don't let friends or relatives using it do so.
If you download a utility for your computer, don't use the "automatic" or "simple" installation choice. It may install garbage ware along with the utility.

I go along with TopNotch.  I use the Microsoft application and have not had a  problem.  I just make sure that I keep up with he new released patched.  And once in a while I do a full scan,  I do a quick scan probaby twice a week.

I have actually been using PC Matic / PitStop for the last 3 or so years.I have the multi-PC license (3 PCs) and I have been extremely satisfied with the product. Set it and forget it. :D
No issues since I have installed it, plus a plethora of other options are built in, i.e. defrag and so on.
Just my 2 cents.

I use AVG "free" version. I find that it's been fairly reliable. I've only received a malware bug twice, in like ten years. (The nastiest one was from a real-estate page, strangely enough.)
I also have Malware Bytes installed, but it very seldom finds anything that AVG has missed.
AVG still updates itself. Even the free version. If you don't mind the occasional "nag" pop-up, it works fine.

I used to use AVG free, but then it became bloatware, after version 7.5 or so, so I moved on.

Malwarebytes is an excellent virus removal tool.  I only use it for that purpose, since the removal tool cannot be the full-time AV.

Onle 1 anti-virus program should run at a time on any given computer.

Whatever you do, avoid Vipre.
