Hood won’t open
« on: July 22, 2021, 04:38:44 pm »
I can’t get the hood open on this 87 project. Hood latch cable goes nowhere and can’t get the latch to pop.

Any recommendations?

There is a 2nd cable in the release handle.  Snap it out and pull it with pliers.

3.    The rest of them have to pee on the electric fence and find out for themselves.    Will Rogers

It can be done at the latch but it's hard.  A tool has to be shaped using another car with the hood open.

Please tell me you know someone that has the tool?

You can raise the front of the hood, by pulling the headlight doors open, and removing the bolts from the hinges. That might allow you enough space to get to the latch from the other direction. Still can't tell you what to push, pull, or turn, however.

Someone on pennocks made one years ago.  They did a how-to thread on it.  Does TV he handle feel like its moving the latch?  It might just need someone to pull the release while another pulls up on a stuck hood.  It might be just stuck to the seal.

We messed with it for a whole and weren’t able to get it. Banged on it while one was pulling the backup cable. Tomorrow we will probably have one of us sit on it or something. It does feel like it’s close. The edges of the hood also come up a bit and the first time we tried we heard the sound of it separating from the rubber seal.

But this is first on the list cuz I need to replace the brake stuff in there. Just annoying lol
