Best Fiero friendly route from Atl to Huntsville
« on: December 05, 2009, 09:58:01 am »
I'm going to be making a lot of trips in the near future to Huntsville.  So, the questions is, what's the best route?  I've tried going through Birmingham, through Rome, and through Summerville.  The biggest problem with the Summerville route is too many 18 wheelers, and not enough passing opportunities, but it's the shortest, and has better winding roads than the others.  So far, I like the Summerville route the best.  Rome had too much congestion.  The other route under consideration is through Chattanooga.  Anyone got another one they'd recommend?

We've often used the Cartersville/Rome/Ft. Payne/Scottdale path, but occasionally we just stay on US 411 from Cartersville and go over through Centre, Alabama and hit 431 in Gadsden.

Unless you're having a 4.9 put into your car, you know there's a very good Fiero mechanic in Douglasville and also in Snellville.  They both do the 3.4 swaps, too.  Much faster and cheaper than The Fiero Factory.  They both have a good selection of parts, too.

Thanks for the route info.  I put that one in my GPS.  I may give it a try.

My 2.8 is still running good.  But if I decide to replace it, I'll probably go with a 3.4.  I'll keep them in mind.

Thanks.

Ashby just completed a 2nd 3.4 swap for me and is about to begin the 3rd.

It really depends on what part of Atlanta you're leaving from.
I usually go I-20 to the 2nd Anniston/Oxford exit.
It runs into 431 a couple of blocks north of I-20. Take 431 through Gadsden all the way into Huntsville.
It's not really a "fun" road, but it's relatively efficient.
I always manage to hit Gadsden right at lunch time or rush hour. Other than that it's pretty smooth sailing.
