cold start injector vs freeze plug?
« on: June 12, 2014, 06:08:49 am »
I've got my 2.8 top end torn down. If I'm going to delete the cold start injector, now is the time to do it. I've read up on how to do it...and TONS of opinions on why or why not to do it, but I'm still on the fence. Does anyone here have experience with this or an opinion they'd like to share from here in the southeast?

I'd be concerned about putting in an expansion type rubber freeze plug due to the possibility of the rubber deteriorating and causing a vacuum leak.  Just disconnect and leave the injector in place to plug the intake.  If the harness isn't plugged into it, then it won't open.

Aerodonamic and I were just talking about this and he said that the injector doesn't work above 65 degrees and many folks in more northern climes report the only difference they see is slightly longer starting times.  Down here, you shouldn't really have a major problem with it disconnected or removed.

Ok, thanks. My concern is that it is leaking, even when disconnected. I haven't tried cleaning it yet.
I was thinking about a coolant expansion plug for a block to go into that space...drive it in, and VOILA!
Just a thought......
I guess my main question is:  is there any benefit to deleting the csi, or is is better to repair the system?

The only benefit to deleting it that I can think of is that it's just one less item to have a problem with.  The ECM doesn't know that it's been deleted so it doesn't change any starting characteristics.
