It was Friday, the 13th yesterday
« on: April 14, 2012, 09:36:18 am »
As some of you know, I did finally sell my 1985 GT. Greg (Cow's Patoot) brought a friend down from NC earlier this week to look at it and the young man deceided to buy it on the spot.
So after the obligational paperwork and transfer of monies, they came back yesterday to pick it up.
While this car has been extremely reliable since I bought it from Charlie, going down to Daytona and back, participating in RFTH # 16 and so on, I certainly sold it with confidence.

They didn't even make it 5 miles away from my house! Select cable snapped!
Don't know how, don't know why, but it snapped right where the cable goes into the metal pipe right at the end, so no way to even put a temporary fix on it.

Despite the fact that I sold the car AS-IS, I did want to help out and try to make things right. I threw in the GT lace rims into the package for free and gave them gas money to get back to NC, grab one of Greg's spare Isuzu select cables, come back down today and replace it.
The young man was short of having tears in his eyes, and I'm a sucker for feeling sorry for people. ;D
So they brought the car back to our house, driving in only 3rd and 4th gear, and we had to play musical cars, as we had a plethora of guest's cars in our driveway.

All of this is going on last night, while having a big BBQ with friends and neighbors, entertaining many people in the back yard, grilling awesome ribs, Cajun sausages and drinking too much Erdinger dark wheat beer!

Perhaps we should have waited with the transaction until Saturday, the 14th!

We picked up Anne's Phoenix from Whodeanie's on Thursday afternoon and brought it back home. Drove without issues.
Yesterday (Friday, the 13th), after I got home from work, I asked Anne to pull her car out of the driveway, so I could back up the SUV and unload all the shopping for our BBQ, and what do you know; her car won't start! Immediately, we assume it is the fuel pump again!
I'm slowly but surely going into a meltdown by now.
Turns out it was just the ICM and all was good again.

Glad it is Saturday now. ;D

Don...remember after the test drive when I said "Something is wrong, it shifts too smoothly...that usually means it is about to break"?  It really was meant as a joke.

The car made it to it's new home with no further issues.  We can catch up on details when/if I wake up.  Been a long weekend, and I am only half way through.

That's a nice looking GT in the picture there! Looks like it needs a paint job though. ;D

Glad you both made it home ok.

My GT will be missed (for a while).

You made it home through Georgia, South Carolina, AND North Carolina?

The local police (my neighbor) was at my house when they departed and assured them that having an insurance binder for that car with the VIN is sufficient.

Plus...the chase car had a headlight out...not sure which they would have gone after first.

Don, what headlights are in that car?  They work great, I want to put the same ones in the convertible.

Got that 3800 swap done on the Formula yet?

Greg,
I never even replaced a bulb in that car for the duration of my ownership (over a year).
If they are not stock, you'd have to ask Charlie what type they are.

I had heard of those headlights years ago and picked up a pair to see if the reports were true.  As I recall, they're about $20 each.  When I finally decided that I would part with the car my intentions were to swap the headlights with the ones in my 87.  Those do have a wider spread so you can see the centerline and the fog line.  Since Don was the one that stepped up, I let it go to him just as it was.

If you can't identify them by looking at the face and the back of the bulb.  I'll Check today and see if I can identify them, too.  I believe they're a Sylvania bulb.

Edited:

They are Sylvania Xtravision sealed beam headlights.  H6054 If you want to upgrade even more, you can go to the Sylvania Silverstar that uses a removeable halogen bulb.

Apparently, there are a couple different iterations of Silverstars. I have sealed beam Silverstars in my Fiero.
They are quite an improvement over the old stockers that they replaced.

I put Sylvania Silverstar bulbs in my Saturn headlamps, and can hardly tell the difference...
