3800 SC swap
« on: December 11, 2008, 09:34:33 pm »
Next week I'm starting a 3800 Series II SC swap into an 88 Notchback. I'm emoving the 2.5 5 speed and switching it to an automatic and useing the automatic tranny from the 97 Grand Prix. The 2.5 and the 5 speed are both junk. And since I have everything to switch it to an automatic that's the way I'm going. The car I'm useing is on the left in this picture.

And this is the engine I'm useing.

hey rob, just wondered if you saw the recall information on the 1997/2003 3800sc from buick regals and gran prix's on the fast fiero site from ga fiero links. there is a possibility of underhood fires. i imagine your long done with your swap though.  just thought you might be interested in reading it.   oldone in c'ville

Long done  ;D ;D ;D I haven't even started yet. I was going to start today but I'm still working on getting the 88 Formula t-top car done. Now he wants me to replace the windshield.

rob if i was retired and had some i would come up and help you out, and maybe i could learn something about cars and engines. i ran across a 97 rivera with a 3800sc in it in the junk yard. on the windshield it said bad motor and below that it said bearing in supercharger is bad. now the owner of the yard said it runs good? i didn't have time to get the hood open or check the mileage that day but i told him i would come back some time later. the car actually looked decent(the body)but i didn't really look at it that close. that motor is a series II. so what do you think, is it worth a look, can the super charger be repaired or is kapoot?     oldone in c'ville

I don't know that much about superchargers, but if the rest of the engine is good then it might be worth getting it and replacing the bearing or picking up another sc from a blown engine, later on. As far as helping me, you  more than welcome to come up anytime. I usually work 7 days a week. If I get tired I'll take a day off during the week or post on our forum that I'm taking a day off.

that motor you're swapping is'nt it a 3800 supercharged? i guess i'll take a look at it but it would have to be real good and real cheap. and i would have someone who knows a lot about superchargers take a look at it.      oldone in c'ville

The one I'm swaping in the 88 is for a customer. But he's about to back out of doing it and if he does then I'm buying the motor from him and I'll put it in my 85.

The swap has been cancelled, he couldn't come up with the money and I don't have enough on hand to buy it myself so I listed it in the Market.

Charlie, I just about got the windshield out and it cracked and we bought a wire. I'm going to tell Reese to call a glassman to install him a new one.
