Pictures from the Fiero art show
« on: April 08, 2012, 10:57:01 am »
Last night, some of our club members took part in the opening of a new exhibit at the Beep Beep Art Gallery in Midtown Atlanta. This was a different experience for the club, but it was fun.
The center piece of the exhibit was an actual Fiero, so the artist wanted some more Fieros outside the gallery for opening night.
Here are some pictures I took....

The gallery was a little Midtown hole-in-the-wall.

A closer look

Getting a Fiero inside, and up on rail road ties was quite a feat.

Some Fiero art

Some of the other art

Even the food set out for guests was art.

Some of the folks that came to look

That's cool, but what was the art part of the Fiero. It didn't look any different.

The Fiero "itself" was the art

I've got a few pics to add also:

The curator cleaning the art object ;D

Technology as art.....or........art as technology

A Blast From The Past

The salad that wouldn't end. We went to dinner around the corner from the gallery and I thought I'd eat something healthy - took 2 days to eat it all. A work of art in itself ;D

No art show would be complete, if not at least one taboo had been viaolated:

All in all a great evening! Thanks to the participants for joining us.

I found a review of the art show here.

Is this reviewer someone known to us?
I kind of hope not.

I agree with Steve.
The critic wasn't very kind with his review on the artists, was he?
Just glad he didn't really mention the club member's cars in front of the gallery or even mention the club.

Jason (the artist) spoke to me about 3 weeks ago about the show, and by his own admission, stated there were mixed reviews about the show.
Always is that way in the art world.

I agree totally with the comments about the critic.
The critic after all IS the AFTERBIRTH of the art talent.

If you treat Art Critics as you should politicians (they both lie and should be changed as often as diapers for the same reason) then what they are saying is that they really like it but they are not sure why.
Commenting on the odor of creosote is simply NOT becomming of any aspiring critic.

Remember, "ars gratia artis" (art for the sake of art - ie, not to serve any utilitarian functions, or ideals - such as PLEASING SNOBBY CRITICS!) is the only pure form of art.

And who says a little creosote fumes mixed with a couple glasses of red wine wasn't PLANNED to enhance the overall experience?   ;)

Jason Kofke's 1984, the centerpiece of the art show, is for sale on CL:

That was predictable.

I can't believe it has a suicide knob on the steering wheel.  Can't be part of the nostalgia since they were outlawed before '84.  Was gonna suggest it might become the new PurpleHaze until I saw the stick shift.
There are three kinds of men:

1.    The ones that learn by reading.
2.    The few who learn by observation.
3.    The rest of them have to pee on the electric fence and find out for themselves.    Will Rogers
