Before he gets there, try starting it after it's cooled.  You might get a real laugh out of that after waiting for so long.  Sometimes the modules will get a second wind after they've cooled down.  Also, check the connectors.  I believe the clip on the small connector was broken, so it could have backed out a little.

nope, it was the module. tried to start it cold, to no avail. we changed it out and jumped it (the hazard lights drained the battery) and she fired right up.

Even here, they need to be ordered.  You can buy them at the local auto parts store, but they have to order them and wait for them to come in.  It is like that with most parts for our cars.  Fortunately, I had a spare one in the garage that I was able to bring down to him.

Something else to carry that would help in diagnosis is an old spark plug.  Before delving into various things, you can pull a wire, insert the plug and check for spark.  It can tell you if the module or even worse, the pickup coil has croaked.  If you don't have a spark plug, it's difficult to diagnose because most people won't stick their finger into the plug wire while you crank on the starter.

Do you need help at this immediate time?

The modules usually come with a small packet of heat sink grease.  May I suggest you throw it away.  Stop at a Radio Shack store and pick up a small tube of their heat sink grease.  It's about $3.00 and will have enough to do all the cars in a Run For The Hills event.  It's a much better insulator than the stuff that comes with the modules.
