88 duke problems (need to get it fixed by Saturday)

Here are the symptoms. While the car is driving, it runs just fine.
1. The car is hot, and I'm stopped at a stop light. It starts idling slow, and then dies. If I try to keep it from dying with the accelerator, it does not respond. If I turn off the key and restart, it runs fine (until the next time).l
2. The car is hot, and I shut it off. After about 5 minutes, I try to start it. It starts, runs for one second, and dies with every attempt. It does not respond to the accelerator. After it's cool, it starts and runs just fine.
I have replaced the ignition module, with no change.

Well I'm no expert on computer-controlled cars, but sounds like a fuel problem to me. Could it be that your pump is going out?

When you replaced your module did you remove the crank sensor and check it for cracks. You may need to check it and replace it. I know they usually do or don't work, but hey these are Fiero's There's nothing usual about them.

Fuel is ok, because when I'm driving, it performs normally, with no hesitation when accelerating. Crank sensor is only about 1 year old, and looked fine.

It's fixed! It turned out to be one of those "who'd of thunk it" things. I went on a drive to warm the car up, and let it sit for a while to get symptom 2 (1st message above). I verified by trying to start. It ran one second and then died. I took off the air cleaner cap and sprayed starting fluid down the TB, then tried to start it again. It started right up, with normal throttle response, and didn't die. There wasn't enough starting fluid to account for this. But then I thought a bit. The starting fluid comes out very cold, so I must have cooled the injector down quite a bit when I sprayed. Now, injectors have an electric magnet inside, and electric magnets are less efficient the hotter they get. So if one is old and worn, it could die altogether when it gets hot. So this morning I replaced the injector, and the car has run fine under all conditions since. Problem solved!
