Bleak frozen landscape
« on: December 04, 2015, 10:57:54 pm »
Where is this frozen landscape? Guess, then scroll down to find the answer

It's on Pluto, and it's very cold there. This picture was recently sent down by NASA's "New Horizons" spacecraft. Because of the great distance, it can only send data as fast as a 2400 baud telephone modem, and it's going to take over a year for it to send all the pictures and other data collected about Pluto. The scale of this picture is about 1inch = 6 miles.

Was there any information as to whether they think it's actually ice or carbon dioxide or something else?  If it's real ice as we know it, that's lots of water.  But before it can be used, studies will need to be made to be sure there won't be any endangered species harmed.  ;)
There are three kinds of men:

1.    The ones that learn by reading.
2.    The few who learn by observation.
3.    The rest of them have to pee on the electric fence and find out for themselves.    Will Rogers

The scientists think that, based on info received so far, that the flat area is frozen nitrogen and CO2. But the mountains are frozen water ice. They think Pluto is at least 20% water ice.
