Identification and Torque Setting

There is a brace that is just infront of the fuel tank and just behind the spare wheel tub. Runs side to side.

Can anyone tell me the name of this or more importantly a torque setting for the bolts please?

I forgot.  What year is it.  The 88 may be different.  Is it shown in the P22 file I sent you?

Apologies, it's an 86.

Will check file, thanks for reminder.

My eyes are bleeding but found it by scrolling through tiny pages on phone.....and it's called....wait for it.......... "Brace". Haaa.

Still don't know torque setting but am going to guess at 25lbft.  It's not going to be critical but would still be interested to know.

Look at the head of the bolt and give me the numbers on it and how many hash marks radiating out to the edge.  That will tell what the torque range is.  Do you want specs in Ft. Lb or Nm?

Most PDF programs have a search feature, although that PDF does not search well.

My granddaughter will be with me tomorrow and I may miss your post, so I'll give you what information I have, now.

Grade 1 or 2 won't have any hash marks on the head.  Grade 5 will have 3 hash marks and Grade 8 will have 6 hash marks.  These are US standard SAE.

Bolt strength head markings for metric are:
4.6, 4.8, 5.8, 8.8, 9.8, and 10.9. 

Torque Specs for Metric in Nm/Ft-lb:
M-6, 9-12,  /  6-9
M-8, 19-28   /  14-21
M-10, 38-54   /  28-40
M-12, 68-96   /  50-71
M-14, 109-154   /  80-140

I find it odd that there's big gaps between the various sizes.

I would say on a brace like that just tighten it down until its tight. I only worry about torque specs when its head bolts, rod bearing caps, wheel lugs or other critical components.

Grade 10.9 and "A" stamped on bolt head.

I always use the German "translation" for indicators "ticken tockens" ;0)
