Accent?
« on: May 06, 2018, 06:25:43 pm »
Everywhere I've been, people tell me I have an accent.  Outside the country, or course I'll sound differently.  Certainly they sound differently in "Naawlens" and "Bostone".  The British have a heavy accent.

I was thinking about fiero128's voice.  To me, he speaks very slowly and haltingly, but maybe that's normal in Australia.  I'm told I clip my words.  Today, different people placed my accent all over the country.

Do you have an accent, or do you sound like the people in your area?

I was born and raised in and around Atlanta GA. But my parents were from Philadelphia.
I'm told that I sound "midwestern".

How do you sound, compared to the others in the club?

I'm from Kansas, therefore, i have no accent when I'm in Georgia.  When I visit Kansas, I have a southern accent. When I speak French, I've been accused of being Dutch. When I speak polish, I've been accused of being American, but accused of being polish when I'm drunk and speaking polish. When I'm speaking c++, I've been accused of speaking basic.  When i speak fiero language around my wife, she says i sound like I'm speaking gibberish.
When I'm speaking to babies, I use my accent a'goo ;)

I don't know how you'd have no accent in Georgia.  How do people in Kansas perceive your southern accent?  Slower?  Do you say words differently?

You remind me of a guy I encountered in Germany.  This guy was checking passports at the airport.  He was speaking with the passengers in various languages.  I could tell they were different languages, although not understand most of them.  When it was my turn, I asked how many languages he spoke.  He replied in English, "Just one. Dutch."

Stop telling your wife that all efforts to resolve the kaferble on the thingamob wlith the dookickey have resulted in a singularity of a parallel transverse reality where there exists a resistance to all efforts to achieve the effort at hand.

Seriously, when the gonkulator fails, you just have to set to.  There's no help for it.  That should explain things.

"No accent" in Georgia means that I don't drink sweet tea, or half sweet/sweet, which earns you carpet-bagger status and many a glare.
My wife, being polish, knows much more "French" than I, which could make a sailor blush.
I tried to explain the glokkenspangler to her, but all I got was a glare and she began speaking "French".

Uh, I guess that's why I get the glare.  Not a fan of sour tea.

When I lived in New England, people thought I had a southern accent.  While in the south, many think I have a northern accent.  One of my college professors in Rhode Island felt I had more of a non-descript broadcasting accent.  My sister is the same way.

But my three brothers?  Well, they're close to Gomer in their dialect.
There are three kinds of men:

2.    The few who learn by observation.
3.    The rest of them have to pee on the electric fence and find out for themselves.    Will Rogers
