Forgot.  Do you eat at the planned places while doing the scouting trip?

I have that image in my files for the 20th anniversary tshirt.

Yes, we do eat at our chosen lunch restaurant.  We don't usually eat at our chosen dinner restaurant due to having to return home at a decent hour.  Sometimes they are restaurants that we've stopped at before when going to or from some other event or one that someone's recommended.  I try to find an evening dinner restaurant that has a wide variety on their menu, plus a place that serves alcohol because some want adult beverages.  I don't remember where it was, but one of our base locations was a dry county and you couldn't buy alcohol.

1.    The ones that learn by reading.
2.    The few who learn by observation.
3.    The rest of them have to pee on the electric fence and find out for themselves.    Will Rogers

He got about 10 or 15 miles and had smoke coming from the vents.  Battery died.  He said it didn't smell like anything burning, so I don't know what the problem was.  Haven't heard if he got it started and drove it home or had it towed.

AC compressor?  Usually right side only for that, though.  Ask him if AC was on.

I'm of the belief it was from the inside vents on the dash.

Interesting.  Freon leak?  Either way, turn off the HVAC.

Yes.  Bathroom break if needed.  It's not a scheduled stop.

I used to have an elevation plate from Vail, Colorado.  I think it was 8,000 feet or something.  I don't remember.  It fouled out 2 cylinders in the '77 Dodge, because we didn't advance the timing.  Th transmission (auto) and brakes got hot.  Still had snow in June.

Electronic advance was a nice improvement, but I don't know at what altitude issues start.

Sixteen years ago we vacationed in Denver.  We took a day trip up through the Rocky Mountains from west of Denver, looping back around to Estes Park.  Trail Ridge Road.  There was a point where we were above 12000 ft.  Mel was already experiencing breathing difficulties, even at our 1000 ft level.  Her doctor told her that if he'd known she was going to do that, he'd have locked her in a room to keep her from going.

Doctors are such a drag.  If they had their way, no one would ever have any fun.  Like RFTH, you're glad you went.
