My theory is that both axles have the same mileage, so likely need to be replaced in pairs, for wear issues.

My theory is the passenger would have more wear due to the torque path in the driveline. These cars are basically 1 wheel drive since the differential is not locked or have a limited slip. Or, I could be wrong

Has the left axle been replaced?

Not on mine, I replaced one use right with another used right so I'm pretty much where I started.  Actually the other day it left an oil spot again from the seal, so i may factually be back at point 1, yuck.

I'm just asking, but why a used axle?  IIRC, mine weren't expensive.

It was a simple matter of time.  It started dripping less than a week before the gettogether.  I could find a seal and nut locally but could not get a shaft that fast and I was not even sure if it was bad.  Think of it as a place holder.  It was not so terrible of a job to have to do twice.

Makes sense.
