88 parts car

Anyone interested in an '88 parts car? I originally got it with the understanding it didn't need much work to get it up and running. Mostly a few parts for the tranny. As I've gotten into it I've relised the 3.4 block is garbage for a Fiero,.the starter holes are stripped. The FWD tranny is pretty beat up. Other than thr engine and tranny it seems like a pretty solid car. No a/c or power options.

The 3.4 is better than the 2.8.  Replacing the transmission is not terrible.

For the starter holes, you can use those springs, or weld and drill/tap, or drill them larger and install a threaded bushing.

Drill and tap the stripped holes and install heli-coils.

Heli-coils.  That's what those springs are called.

I had no luck looking into a replacement tranny. I accidently picked up one from a Cavalier that wont work for this engine. I heard with these cast iron blocks it's really easy to break the case on the left hand starter bolt side. With that weird angle it has. I'll try thoes heli-bolts and hope this transmission holds up. Unless someone has a 5 speed they would trade or sell.

It's easy to break the case of the starter if you tighten the outboard bolt too much.  I've had 3 starters break the ear off.  The one I have on currently has been on for many years without problems, but I was more aware of what was causing the break when I installed it.

What year Cavalier? Why won't it work? Wrong bolt pattern? Or wrong type of release bearing?
If it's the hydraulic release bearing, I've got one in my car, bolted to a 4.9. It can be made to work with the 3.4 without a lot of trouble.
