Hard Starting

My '88 GT is having a bit of trouble starting.  Until recently, it would start without depressing the gas first.  Then I occasionally needed to depress the gas when starting.  Now, I almost always need to depress the gas pedal.

What's the most likely culprit?  Fuel pump (dang, I just filled up)? Starter? Or something else?

One should never depress the gas pedal to start a fuel injected car.  Try priming the injectors a couple of times by turning the ignition on and off.

Sounds like you may  possibly have a leaking cold start injector. The mixture is too rich to start, but depressing the gas pedal lets in more air and dilutes the rich mixture.

I was having a similar issue on my car and it turned out to be a bad temperature sensor. It wasn't adding enough fuel on startup. It's the sensor on the pulley end of the engine and if I remember correctly it threads in the intake horizontally.

What is the procedure for checking the cold start injector. I think Don removed the one on may car.

Plug the cold start port on the fuel rail.  See if anything changes.

The symptoms you describe are classic cold start injector.
