Ah, Thanksgiving....
« on: November 28, 2019, 10:42:46 am »
A day for spending time with people for whom you're thankful; a day for sharing food; a day for discussing the important politics of the day, such as the acceptable thickness of a slice of bread, the best way to make gravy, and--most importantly--the ideal Thanksgiving dessert.  Efforts at civility and understanding sometimes fail, leaving only one result.

Watching Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade, first of all, most of the floats come through in battering-ram fashion.  Are they going to storm the castle?  Secondly, there were no Fieros. :(

Nice to see Blue Springs represented.

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!

If you find your way on time, stop by.  Itxll be a small group, this year.  After the turkey sedative, you can doze off to the pedantic conversation.

We had our Thanksgiving last Saturday and I was just as thankful then as I am today.  Just sitting home, enjoying the bright, sunny and warm day, watching the birds dine at the bird feeder.

I waited until I thought everyone would be finishing the meal preparation or about to sit down to eat and I went and got a few groceries and did some shopping for the Grandmother and her 2 Granddaughters.  I must say that midday on Thanksgiving is the time to shop.  The store was practically vacant.

Happy Thanksgiving to all of you.

Most gas stations are open, but not much else, here.

I like Cornbread Dressing seasoned with sage, made from scratch with my Mom's recipe.  I usually make it but this year my sister did.
There's another traditional dish that my Mom always made, and now it's my responsibility.  That dish is Congealed Salad.

Sounds good, except for the congealed part.

Salads aren't always made with vegetables.  Think Fruit Salad or Watergate Salad.  Congealed Salad is made with Jello, cream cheese, cherries, pineapple, pecans and Coca-Cola.

Well, those things all sound good, except the soda.

Coca-Cola is a southern thing.  You can use Pepsi up there  :) .  Actually, the cola (any brand) takes away some of the tartness of the cherries, strawberry, cherry or raspberry jello (1 each of 2 flavors is used).

The soda is left open overnight to allow the carbonation to escape, however, it can be used fresh from the container.  You can't taste the soda.
