Cruise Control Questions
« on: February 11, 2010, 04:27:08 pm »
I found an article on-line "Troubleshooting the Cruise Control" by Oliver Scholz.

It says that all cruises use a external module are the same except the '87~'88 4-cyl.

What it does not say is...Are the 4-cyl and the 6-cyl modules the same?

I think I need a Module for my '88 V-6. Is it the same as the same module as the 4 cyl?

I believe the 87 & 88 4 cylinders run through the ECM.
There are three kinds of men:

1.    The ones that learn by reading.
2.    The few who learn by observation.
3.    The rest of them have to pee on the electric fence and find out for themselves.    Will Rogers

I may have found the problem...
Does anybody have a cable that connects the cruise to the throttle?

I went to U-Pull It and found the clips... installed the cable, still no good.
Dug up the cruise control papers I bought from Rodney and went through the trouble shooting guide.
It might be the Servo...
Does anybody have a servo I can borrow to see if that is the problem?

Got it fixed.
Charles had a extra vacuum purge silenoid.
Thanks to Charles..

For future reference all cruise control parts are interchangeable...
Purge silenoid, diaphragm silenoid, control stock & control module.
I swapped all parts back and forth till I found the bad part.

After all this I know about all there is to know about the cruise control.
If anybody has any question about the cruise control let me know and I will help the best I can....

I believe the control module is different on the '84, and suspect the '87-'88 4-cyl is different, also.
