It is.  That long rear window gave them a great aerodynamic advantage in NASCAR races.

The ugly car I was thinking of was the Caprice that came out in the 90s.

If you look at Pontiacs winning record, I think it was more about keeping up aerodynamically than gaining an advantage. I think those bodies were used for a season or two max before GM changed everything to FWD and completely changed the bodies

That car along with its Chevy cousin were two of the ugliest cars GM ever made.  The other two were a big bulky sedan and wagon shared by Chevy Nd Cadillac.  I think they were the same platform as the reborn Impala SS.
