Plastic hood latch cover
« on: February 11, 2021, 07:58:37 pm »
The plastic hood latch cover is in need of some restoration.  Around the screw holes, the plastic could be better.  Anyone every tried to get the plastic back to how it should be?

You're speaking of the plastic cowl cover that fits around the exterior hood latch?  I have seen cowl covers that were in pristine condition, except for the area immediately in front of the screened portion and that area was warped and stood up from making contat with the body.  It might be possible to use a heat gun sparingly and get it to reform around the latch and also at the vent inlet area.

There is some missing thickness in the plastic around the screw holes.

Here is a picture:

The two screw holes on the left seem to be in rather poor condition.  I'm not sure, but that notch at the top seems to be broken.

I already fixed the two tabs.

If you could find some nylon washers like used on the weather seals at each end of the door glass might suffice in strengthening it.  They would spread the load on the thin plastic.
