'86 Cradle Bushings
« on: April 19, 2021, 02:12:05 pm »
Hello All,

I need to replace the cradle bushings in my '86 GT.  Would you go with the aluminum ones that Rodney sells or the poly ones from the Fiero store?

Aluminum.  '88 cradles are solid-mounted, and the alumjnum bushings would replicate that.  Make sure your motor mounts are good, though.

Whichever is most economical,  it's not a racecar

True, but there was a reason that Pontiac solid-mounted the '88 cradle, and it had nothing to do with racecars.

88s also have a completely different rear suspension. Extra rigidity was added on purpose. An 87 or earlier doesn't need solid mounted cradle

I have a set of poly bushings somewhere. Free if I can find them, since I only have 88's now.
The more complex the mind, the greater the need for the simplicity of play.

If you can find the poly bushings, I would greatly appreciate it.  Rodney has a heavier duty, weld in bushing that repairs the thin wall of the older cradles.  If anyone has a good stick or mig, I can weld in the new pieces and just upgrade the entire thing.  The aluminum is about $100 and the poly is around $50.
