New to me 88
« on: June 21, 2014, 04:09:01 pm »
Howdy All,

I have a new to me 1988 Fiero GT, 5 Speed, almost 58,000 miles.  So far I've vacuumed a Jack-o-lope (The car came from NY, via Texas and Atlanta) out of the AC Blower Motor and had an emergency distributor replacement.  The condition of the AC Blower Motor and the corrosion on the distributor make me think the car is due for a good cleaning.  Is there any information out there, or suggestions, on where to start?

Thanks

Now with a trailer hitch for my bike rack.

I just did a D&C (Dusting & Cleaning) on my 87 while I had the dash out.  I'd been having leaves appear in my center dash vent, but I had no idea how much was inside.  I pulled the front cowl air intake panel and got everything I could get.  Then put everything back with a good chunk of black butyl around each of the screw holes to keep it from leaking into the cockpit.  Pulled the ballast resister just to the passenger side of the receiver dryer and only found a little debris in there.  That's the real danger spot.  Clean out the rubber drain hoses that run from each side of the front cowl, down through the front compartment and out the bottom.  That's a favorite pathway for rodents to get into the front cowl and heater ductwork.

I took my air nozzle and blew down through every piece of duct work I could find and I think I got everything out.  Strip out the spare tire and jack and clean the front compartment.  Take a water hose or air nozzle and pressure blast the little drain hole in the bottom of the spare tire well.  Clean out any debris lying on the ledges underneath the headlights.  Raise them for good access.

Remove the shift surround and seats and recover some of the money you spent on the car.  At the same time you can get all the old french fries and cigarette butts out so that they don't smell up the car.

Go to Advance and get a set of high and low note horns and bolt and wire them up in place of the single wimpy horn Pontiac put on the 88's.
