Stupidity SHOULD be painful, right?
« on: July 29, 2012, 07:07:26 pm »
From here on, we will not discuss the stupidity of my actions.  I admit it was stupid...no need to accentuate it.

So...I am pulling the rear cradle bolts out of a parts car to recover the aluminum cradle bushings.  My thoughts on leverage...the weight of the car is pushing down on the cradle, and the rear suspension pushes up on the cradle...therefore, in idle position, the cradle is being forced against the car....right?  So...while it is sitting on the ground, I can pull the rear cradle bolts, then jack up the car to remove the upper parts of the aluminum bushings.

DON"T DO THIS.  The logic is wrong.  The suspension pushes up on the SPRINGS, not the cradle.  As soon as you pull that second rear cradle bushing, you will have the weight of the drivetrain crushing your hand between the ground and the impact wrench.  It will hurt...very bad.

Fortunately, I wasn't alone.  Larry was here to point and laugh...then use the jack to lift it back off my hand.  Also, very fortunately, nothing is broken...just bruised all to hell.  So...in the end...we can all laugh at my stupidity.  Regardless...we have a little delay in the Fierfly project.

That's not stupid... that's a "Life Lesson."

Speaking of which, I learned one this morning. I awoke in the middle of a nightmare throwing punches at someone or something, and came down forehead first onto the sharp edge of a glass-covered nightstand.

Maybe I was dreaming I was Batman?  Spoiler Alert: The Evil Nightstand won.

So, I got to visit the new CVS Minute Clinic today. BTW, they don't use stitches anymore these days, they use superglue.

CowsPatoot, I'll see you in the ER next weekend!
(Seriously, glad you're okay!)

Don't feel bad.
I won't even go into the wisdom (or lack of same) of sitting cross-legged on the floor, holding an exhaust system in your lap, and cutting the tubing with a zizz wheel. Hilarity ensued. Not.

This does not surprise me.  When my son had his Pacemaker/Defibrillator put in, They used super glue type stuff to close the sutcher  line.

Thank you, Raydar...I feel a little better about my stupidity now.  The theory behind what you did is as solid as the theory behind mine...but you would think common sense would step up in both cases.

Just an update though...hand is a bit swollen, minimal bruising (I never have bruised easy) but plenty of redness from the rocks that it came down on.  No limits or pain in movement, but it does feel a little stiff at the extremes.  Considering what happened, I can't complain (but still will).  Hope to have wiring done on Fierfly tomorrow.
