2012 Christmas Party-December 8
« on: November 10, 2012, 05:04:03 pm »
This year we will be celebrating Christmas in a more traditional manner.  Rather than our White Elephant Christmas, we will be bringing Christmas presents for two young children who have recently lost their Father.  The Mother has been out of their life for some time and they are in the custody of a relative.

We usually set a $25 limit on the value of the gifts that we exchange among ourselves.  This year, each person please bring a gift for a boy or girl.  We will have them as guests at our December 8 Christmas party.  You may spend more if you like.

Due to their ages and the distance they must travel, we should have our party at the regular time of 1:30 PM.  It will be at The Galaxy Diner.

In addition, the club will be contributing money from the club treasury that will go to a trust fund for the two children.  If anyone would also like to contribute anything additional, we will have information posted soon.  We will also have information on the ages of the children and their clothing sizes.  We know the boy is 5 years old and the girl is somewhere between 8 and 10.

If you haven't attended meetings regularly, we hope you will join us on this special occasion.

There are three kinds of men:

1.    The ones that learn by reading.
2.    The few who learn by observation.
3.    The rest of them have to pee on the electric fence and find out for themselves.    Will Rogers

I am sorry to announce that the Christmas party for the 2 children is off.  The club just received an email and the guardians declined.  The reason is that the children's school and the guardians' church are both doing something for them that will provide gifts for Christmas.  They feel that the children don't need more toys.  When they first agreed, they were under the impression that we were doing a fundraiser car show to raise money for the children.

SO, shall we fall back to the White Elephant Christmas, or if we don't get anyone wanting to be club officers, shall we just gather together and become the Lunch Club?

Suggestions, PLEASE!

Charlie I Think We Should Continue With Our White Elephant Christmas Party.
As For The Club, I Think We Should Continue As A Club With Officers,
I Fear If We Become A " Lunch Club " We Will Be Dissolved Within 6 Months.

Rules for White Elephant Christmas to be held at The Diner beginning at 1:30.  This is so some of the people from out of state can get back home that night.

If you purchase a gift, set a limit of $25.
Each person attending should bring 1 gift.  It should be wrapped and have no names on it.
The gift can be humorous, useful, or just a piece of junk.  Whatever suits your fancy as long as it's within good social taste.  Remember, there are other customers in the restaurant.
We will count the number of gifts and create tickets from 1 to that number.
Each person who brought a gift will then draw a number from a container or hat.
We will start with the person having number 1 and proceed in numeric order.
The next number may either select an unwrapped gift or take a gift from someone who has already opened a gift.
If they take a previous person's gift, they give that person their number and that person must select another unwrapped gift or another person's gift.  They cannot take their own gift back.
A person may only lose their gift 2 times.
After all gifts have been opened, the person who drew Number 1 has their choice of either keeping their gift or swapping it with anyone else's gift.  This is because they didn't have that opportunity, being the first person.

If you are coming with someone, may I suggest one useful gift and one otherwise gift.  Don't ignore gifts for the ladies as there will be a few there.

Yes.  It goes by a number of names, but they're all just as much fun.  Crazy, White Elephant, Dirty Santa, and they're probably many more.

Well we were trying to make it today, but taking sick cats to the vet has made it impossible.  There won't be enough time for us to get there.  Merry Christmas everyone.  Have fun for me!

Thanks, Don, Anne, Charlie and everyone for another fun year, and great Christmas party...

Outgoing president Don's contract still calls for lifetime, round-the-clock Secret Service protection and use of GFC One, the club jet.
