Missing Fiero
« on: January 21, 2014, 07:22:20 pm »

The good news is my daughters are fine.
The bad news is my Fiero is totaled.
The good news is many parts will live on with f85gtron when we go see it tomorrow.
Anything special we should be sure to grab?

My '87 GT did it's job and took the impact.  I'll miss it.

WHAT?!  What happened?  When I saw the title, I was thinking Oh No, it was stolen.

If you can do an insurance buy-back, you'll have plenty of time to pull all the new stuff you put on it, plus the engine and especially the Getrag transmission.  Everything undamaged is worth saving.  I'd like to have the complete dash assembly if it's in good condition.  We can use it in our charity Joel Project.

Can you or Ron post some pictures?

I hope your daughter didn't receive any injuries and this doesn't turn you off of Fieros.  Unless it was a really high speed collision, she shouldn't have received anything serious.

Could you post or send me the particulars of the car.  VIN, interior and exterior color, and all the options?  There is an 87 Fiero Registry and it needs to be added.  Also, give me the manufacture date on the drivers door tag and the mileage.

Edit:  BTW, if you're in the market for another, there's a beautiful Maroon 87SE Notchback up here near me with 45,000 miles.  It's an automatic, so no clutch problems.  Raydar has a man from Texas looking at it, but if it doesn't sell, you could probably get it for 3K.

Daughters are fine.  A little sore, a bit of abrasion from the seat belts, but fine.

VIN: 1g2pg1191p227489

AC worked, CD, sunroof, 5-speed gertrag, v-6, non-functioning cruise, new slave clutch cylinder, new mike's seats, new shift cable, new waterpump (but leaked) and belts.  New coolant (if it's still in it).  Keyless entry. Sunroof.

White with tan interior.

If I buy it back, where can I store it until it's parted out?

I'm not turned off on Fieros.  Just not ready. I'm a bit snobbish against automatics.  Snobbish for 5-speeds, which means an 87 or 88.

I'll wax philosophical later.

Again, glad there were no serious injuries to anyone!

Still, a real shame...

Car's totaled.

Here's a link to some photos.  Engine compartment is fine.

BTW, car was hit by a jacked-up F-250, going "55" before he hit the brakes and swerved.

Again, so fortunate that no-one was badly hurt!

As far as the photos... I'll never be able to "un-see" those now.

Best,

Amazing isn't it, that no one was seriously hurt.  My youngest just saw a Subaru commercial stressing safety and wants one of those.  We use to have a Forester until a Corolla ran a red and threw itself in front of my wife.  They're good cars.

Here's a Fiero in Augusta without an engine.  http://augusta.craigslist.org/cto/4283496480.html

My engine and transmission looks ok.  Can these cars be combined for the Joel project?

Forgot to mention my Alternator was new.  the clutch leaked a little, but not enough to require fluid for the past month or so.  The waterpump needs a new gasket.  Required about an inch of coolant per week.

I'd like to see my Fiero live on in another car(s).

It speaks to the 5 star rating it earned during its time.  With that A pillar coming in the way it did, the passenger compartment maintained its integrity.

The Craigslist find might be a suitable car, but the club doesn't have the funds for it.  We are working with donations and members' labor.  Your engine would swap over to the other but you'd need to change out the engine harness.  Swapping the automatic to a manual is quite a chore.  Not for the faint hearted.

You should be able to pull the new MC, the auxilliary gauge cluster, seats, rear lid and fascia, and rear assembly with struts, engine and trans, cables and shifter and the deck lid and vent covers and tail lights if not damaged.

WOW!
Certainly glad to hear the your daughters were not seriously hurt.

You still have a lot of good parts left tho.
What size are the tires?
You can't fix stupid but, you can adjust it with a 2x4.

Falken 17's on the front and 18's on the rear with new Performance Falken 225/45R17 for the front and 245/40R18 for the rear to keep proper aggressive staggered stance.

At least that's what the original ad said.

Holy Schnickies!
Charlie told me about the wreck. I'm happy that your daughters are okay.

Did that car come from Lithia Springs? It looks very familiar.
