Here's the situation as I understand it.  Keep in mind I have seen nothing in writing and this is based entirely on a discussion with State Farm.

The salvage, "business-to-business" purchase price is $443.50.  If I do not buy-back, the car will go to auction.  The State Farm person has see the auction price go higher and lower than the buy-back price. IOW, it might be cheaper or it might cost more.

No auction time/date was provided.

The car is located in Gaston, SC (!) which is in Lexington County, just south of Columbia.
I have no way to pick up or store the car.

My preference is someone from the club purchases the car at auction.  However, if the buy-back price is considered too good to pass up, we can work something out where I get reimbursed.

Sadly no.  It's up in Gaston, SC at CoPart.  I've asked State farm when the auction is scheduled.  They don't know.
Here's the information on registering: http://www.easyexport.us/how_to_buy
And their address and number:
4324 Highway 321
Gaston, SC 29053
(803) 794-3252

I've called, but no one answers.

If someone else calls, please post what you find out.  We don't want them thinking there's a bunch of folk out there ready to bid against each other.

That is a beautiful car.  OK, time for me to wax philosophical.

I have always wanted a Corvette.  Growing up in Hialeah, FL there was a garage called Corvette Corner that always had the best looking cars out front.  I'd ask my parents to drive past so I could see them.  Must have been around 6 years old.

Since my daughter crashed the Fiero, my wife would like to put her into a much larger/higher vehicle.  This removes the two-seater requirement.  Rather than get her something, we've decided to let her drive the '08 van with nearly 100,000 miles.  This means we need to get something for me.

Which brings me back to the 'Vette.  I've been surfing around, and have found a few C4s and C5s in my price range.  Because of the beautiful Fiero linked above, I am planning on checking out a C5 this weekend, rather than waiting until mid-March.  You see, I'm @6'2" and do not enjoy hitting my head inside a car or cramping my legs.  The Fiero was a pleasant surprise.  So, I'll see if I fit and if I can shift the manual transmission.  I've driven manual 'Vettes before, usually modified, and figured there had to be something wrong with the car.  This'll be my chance to see if  really want a Corvette.

If not, I hope that '88 Fiero is still available.

I've seen the car listed before and I asked him to visit the club meeting.  He didn't even acknowledge the email.  I'm usually pretty up to date on many of the Fieros, either personally or by word from other club members.  I've never seen or heard of this one, other than on Craigslist.  I think this one is just a couple of miles from where we meet.  There are a goodly number around our area that don't wish to be involved with a club and just go it on their own.

Some of the photos he has in his SmugMug galleries were taken in the area where I think he lives, near where we meet.

Very sad to see that happen to some of those cars.  Bring your own crane and flatbed.

Decided to pick up branches in my back yard rather than test drive Corvettes.  Anyone going to the Corvette Expo in Sieverville(?), TN in March?
