front hood latch
« on: February 27, 2014, 08:23:48 pm »
Hey Yall, i am having a problem with the front hood latch. I have the latch adjusted all of the way up but it doesnt catch like it should. If you drop the hood it hits the mechanism but wont latch. If you push it down, sometimes it will latch, sometimes it wont. Any idears?

Thanks, Scott

There is a hex head plastic post on either side of the cowl.  That's intended to help align the hood, act as a bump stop to keep the hood from vibrating on the corners and also as a safety feature that the keyhole slot in the hood slides onto in the event of a front end collision.  Keeps the hood out of your face.  Check to see that they aren't adjusted too high, or the hood is misaligned and they aren't going into the round part of the keyhole slot.  Put a piece of scotch tape over the top of them and look for abrasions on the tape.

2.    The few who learn by observation.
3.    The rest of them have to pee on the electric fence and find out for themselves.    Will Rogers

It seems that little weatherstrips are holding the hood up, must be time for some new ones. I did fix the latch, apparently lubrication really is a wonderful thing.
