Run For The Hills 2014 Scouting Run
« on: February 28, 2014, 02:40:26 pm »
On March 15, some of us will be going up to North Carolina to do a scouting run for this years Run For The Hills.  The trip is about 3 1/2 hours from The Diner, not counting a gas and bathroom stop.  Greg has a run laid out and we will be looking at that, and making a trial run.  This will be the Saturday after the March club meeting.

Any and all are invited to come along.

There are three kinds of men:

1.    The ones that learn by reading.
2.    The few who learn by observation.
3.    The rest of them have to pee on the electric fence and find out for themselves.    Will Rogers

For our meeting place Saturday morning, follow I-85 North and exit at the Chateau Elan/Winder Hwy 211 exit.  Exit Number 126.  Turn left across I-85 and about 1/4 mile there is a gas station on the right.  I think it's a BP.  We should all be there by 7AM.  For those who are on the West side of Atlanta, if you leave home with a full tank, we will stop just before SC and tank up and grab a cup of coffee.

The destination is Burnsville, NC.  There's a Shell Station on the East end of town near the intersections of East Main and US Hwy 19 East.  The addresses are such that Google Maps lists two consecutive numbers as being on the opposite ends of town, so here's what do.

If you are going straight to Burnsville on your own, using a GPS, put in Intersection of Town and Country Drive at East Main, Burnsville, NC.  That will get you to the front of the Shell Station.

US 19 is Exit 9 off I-26, North of Asheville and if you stay on US 19, it will bring you past the Shell Station.

Everyone bring a fully charged FRS radio.

Daryl is already up there.  He and CowsPatoot will be driving the club courtesy car while the 'vert is waiting on some parts to arrive.  FireFly wants to go, but 3 can't go into a Fiero.  If anyone has an empty seat, post here so they can make plans up there.

I just asked Ray again if he was going to ride with me and he mumbled that he was thinking about not going.  So, I will have an empty seat for anyone that wants to ride with me.

Just jumped on to verify what time we have to leave and realized there was no time listed for meeting in Burnsville.  Since you are meeting down there at 7:00, and I calculate a 3 hour drive from there, I assume we are planning on 10am in Burnsville.

I have 10 sets of route sheets printed up, and we will be bringing an extra radio and a camera.  Darrell will be doing most of the driving on the run so that I can take notes and navigate.

Sharon will not be coming after all...so we don't need an extra seat.

3 1/2 hour trip, add a gas stop and make it 4, so we should arrive about 11, gassed up at the Shell and depart.

Down here, there's Pat, Me, Scott, Randy as drivers.  I can't remember if there was anyone else, but if they're not at Chateau Elan by 7, we're gone.

BRING YOUR FRS RADIOS!

Oh yes, and Ron!

I haven't heard from slowburn57, but I see he's online right now.  I'll check this thread before I leave for any updates.

My cell is six 7 ate, fore six 7, won 7 fore too.

Good times Fellas - I think I might be addicted after the first run. Now I need to find ME a car.

Someday I will be in search of an 88 manual.

And...... I make it within 15 miles of the house and sling the alternator belt. Car has overheated and puked out a lot of water. Hopefully I haven't cracked a head. I did not hear any noise from the engine, hoping its OK. Typing this while waiting on a wrecker. It helps to have friends in the towing business.
