Putting in my comments now since I won't be at the meeting:

I'm in favor of handing the car over as quickly as possible.  Here's my reasoning:

* I don't want to track the new owner for two years.  Doubt if anyone else does.
* The club might forget to remove the lien in two years.
* If he sells the car it might go to a Fiero fan, which is good.
* If he keeps the car, he might become a Fiero fan, which is good.

What's the bad side to walking away after the handover?
What's the good side of NOT walking away?

I would tend to agree.
If he wants the car, we have to assume that he wants the car.
I don't think we should be "married to it" for... however long. Even if we agree to keep it roadworthy for that long. (Who, exactly, is "we" anyway?)

If this is really a goodwill thing, there shouldn't be any strings. Just my humble opinion.

Since it was mentioned...
Regarding this week's meeting, we also need to discuss the West GA car show on 7/11, if anyone is interested.

'We', as in the 'Club'.
No, I don't think we need to be 'married' to the car either. More likely divorced. No objections to helping out though.
You can't fix stupid but, you can adjust it with a 2x4.

I can't find my oil pressure sender tube.  I don't know if I've already taken it over to the project car, or if it's been discarded.  Does anyone have a pressure sender tube for a 2.8 that they would sell or donate?  If we find that the other is already with the project car, we'll return yours.  It's a vital part needed to get the car to the paint shop in Augusta.

I'm going to do the brakes tonight. I'll look for the tube while I'm there.

Thank you.  It still had one of the old style sending units mounted on it.

Okay. The brakes are on the car. The sway bar end links are tightened and the parking brake is connected, and feels like it should work. I figure that once the pads bed in a little bit, the right side adjustment lever can be removed and backed off one more "flat" on the adjuster. As it is, it's either a bit too loose, or too tight to install the lever. The left side is quite tight, but it should loosen up with a few miles, and a few stops.

The bad news... both calipers are leaking a bit through the vent / weep hole / whatever it is in the middle of the piston. That's probably what killed the previous pad. I don't know how long they had been on there, or how badly they will leak, over time. If it were mine, I'd probably replace them. But at least it can be moved, now.

The car is still on the jack stands. I thought that there was still a jack at the house, so I didn't bring mine. So when you come to pick up the car, you'll probably need to bring one. Or I can bring one if I'm at home.
I figured that it might be useful to have the car in the air when the oil sender tube is addressed, anyway.

The oil sender tube...
I couldn't find Charlie's. It didn't seem to be in the car, unless it's skillfully hidden.
There is a Fiero engine (Ron's?) in the corner of the garage. It has the tube and sender on it. Maybe that one could be "borrowed"?

I didn't run the engine to investigate the leak. I ran out of time and daylight. I didn't get there until way later than I wanted, due to having to have my home A/C fixed. It was 10:00 when I wrapped up.

Steve, thanks for taking care of that.  It certainly speeded up the delivery of the car.  We could replace the rear calipers once it gets out of the paint shop.  I checked Advance and we can get unloaded calipers for the rear for $62 each after core refund.  They don't come with the mounting brackets, but those are already on the car.  What does Uloaded Calipers mean?  I see references on Rock Auto for Loaded and Unloaded.  It looks like the ones from Advance come with the E-brake arm and return spring.

The price is for home delivery so if Ron is willing to add another thing to his bucket list, the club could purchase them online then have them shipped to him.

Correction--Advance only has the left rear available but AutoZone has both available for shipment in 1 day.

For an 88, unloaded usually means just the caliper body and piston. No hardware. No bridge. No pads. No pins or clips. JUST the caliper body and piston. The good news is that all of the other stuff seems to be good.
When they're replaced, the bottom caliper bolt on the right side should be replaced. The splines were damaged when we used the undersized torx socket. I was able to tighten it, but it's not ideal. I'm pretty sure I've got an extra. If I can find it, I'll bring it to the meeting.

What about just the rebuild (seal) kit for the calipers?  ......if it's cheaper. Sometimes it isn't.

I just got a return call from the receptionist at Eagle Paint and Body.  They are willing to provide the paint job for the car.  She advises that it will take 4 to 6 weeks to complete, so we need to get it there quickly.  Anyone feel up to riding to Augusta with me within the next week?  I've asked that the owner call me back to discuss the need for aero trim and belt molding clips.  It will depend upon how he wants to do the paint job.  I have a lot of the clips needed.

I still haven't been able to locate the oil pressure sensor tube.

The rebuild kit is cheaper, but not as fast and easy was the reason I suggested the calipers.  If the plug is leaking, then probably the pistons have been improperly retracted when Mike last had the pads replaced, damaging the seal and adjuster.  The new calipers are already retracted and ready to install.

The rear calipers look to be a PITA to rebuild, with the goofy parking brake mechanism. But I've never done one, so I can't comment on the difficulty (or not.) I always bought rebuilt or used "parts car" calipers.

I spoke with Eagle today too.  They said they'd just been talking about the car.  Didn't know it was with FieroFool!

I received another call from the owner and we discussed the time frame for getting the car delivered.  He advises that it may take 4-6 weeks but they will try to make it sooner if they can.  They will do a full trim removal so that it gets a proper paint job.  It might be a good idea if the club starts securing the various fastener kits needed to reattach the aero rocker and trim pieces and the belt molding.  Probably a pair of wing stand gaskets should be included, too.

I again spoke with Augusta Warrior Project and let them know our progress and expected delivery.  We talked about some media coverage and she said she would handle that and there should be no problem in arranging for full media coverage.  We will try to make it on August 1 at the Augusta Cars and Coffee.
