B. Scout Car Show

 We had quite an enjoyable day, and appreciate the help & concern for my father's well being & dead car battery. The car made it home with no further problems :) May God bless our club & it's fine members! Thanks a ton, ya'll.

Also, was the Avanti II built on (what looks to me like) a Firebird or Camaro chassis and cockpit?

Great photos...  and I guess the truth is out...  I had to leave early because I knew that the police dog had already picked up on my scent!  ;- )

Most of all, keep us informed, please.

The Avanti II was built on the original design.  There was a group of former employees who bought the rights to the Avanti and were producing them in the spirit of the original.  At one time they were actually being produced somewhere around Villa Rica or Carrolton.  Also somewhere during their lifetime, they were built on a Mustang chassis.  I wanted one badly back in the 60's, but the price of the car with the Corvette engine just put it out of the ball park for me.  I thought they were really beautiful back then, but I only remember seeing a coupe. I don't know what chassis they used for the Corvette engine, but I remember that sometime in the later years they used the Mustang as the base. 

I heard the same rumor about the police dog.  He kept trying to get out of his cage and leave. :D

Before leaving, I spent some time talking with Matt Cariens, the show MC.  He was the tall guy with the black shirt with flames.  He's a big part of the Golden City Cruisers, a club that is mostly directed at raising money for charities.  He invited us to come out to their events, either as individuals, or as a group.

He also said that we could grab any pictures from their facebook page, of the Boy Scout show.  Here's a link to their page, rather than pulling individual pictures.  Enjoy.

I'd like to take a moment to thank all of you.  Raydar did a great job in getting us set up so that we were all together.  Fiero GTB, thanks for going out of your way to provide shelter and seating. 

Thank you Steve and Gretchen for coming down from Cleveland and paying the registration fee, even after judging was over.  Had you not done that, we wouldn't have tied for a share of the 50/50 Jackpot.  Greg and Sharon, what can I say.  Six hour one-way drive to get here.  And that's not to minimize the efforts of those who live in the Atlanta area.  All of you were very important to this event.  You made our presence known to hundreds of people.  Don, I wish I had the strength that you have.  You're amazing.

As a result of your presence, we have an invitation to do a film interview about the Warrior Project on Saturday.  Scott will try to help get the car to their location so they can do a walk-around as we talk.  It will go onto several social media sites including facebook and YouTube.  The crew that was doing interviews and filming at the show has a production company and they're going to help promote our project.  I'll keep the forum informed of goings on.

Also, thanks to those who drove our "extra" cars to the show. It would have been very hard for me to drive both of mine there (drive one a few feet, get out and drive the other a few feet, etc.). ;)
About the Avanti -- the cockpit was definitely from a Firebird or Camaro. The radio was the same type I have in my red Fiero (late 90's, early 00's Pontiac radio).

How did we do re best Club participation?  I counted only 9 Camaros & Firebirds (together they are one club).

We tied with the Golden Cruisers for participation, and picked up 1/2 of the pot.

It was the Golden City Cruisers whom we tied with.  I don't think they're exclusively Camaro/Firebird.  I believe those were a different group.  Looking at GCC's website, they have a wide variety of cars.  Our portion was actually 1/4.  The ticket holder got 1/2 and GCC and GFC split the other half.

I think Steve's car made the judging. Randy agreed to allow himself to be "recruited" to assist. (The judges might have gone back.)
 He said that the judges had all sorts of good things to say about Steve's car.

Gretchen and I had a great time and a nice drive Saturday. It was a pleasure chatting with those that we shared some shade.
 
As you could probably tell, the '85 GT doesn't get out very much and it was fun to stretch it's legs a little. (and confirm that the A/C still works well!) Life has kept us busy and the car in the garage mostly. As I mentioned to a few of you at the show, I am contemplating selling the car. Thankfully, it isn't a need to sell as much as it is a desire to see it go to someone who may be able to appreciate it and enjoy it a little bit more than we have been able to this last year or so. If there is an interest let me know. I will probably post it on Craigslist but not until I have a little more time to be at home. The next two months have me coming and going too much to respond to every wacko on CL who wants to trade for their '86 escort and bobble head collection.

In the mean time, if we can make it out with the car again to an event we certainly will. Unfortunately we will be out of town for the next RFTH.

Thank you for all of the compliments. The car was looking good and it was a joy to see so many others of its kind in one place. Hope to see every one again soon.
