For the thrill of it all . . .

Run For The Hills 19

What:
Please join the Georgia Fiero Club for the 19th annual Run For The Hills.  This year, we will be exploring some exhilarating mountain roads in western NC and eastern TN.  We will be starting in Burnsville, NC.  We will be driving about 175 miles of the twistiest roads you can imagine.  We will be having lunch in Boone, NC somewhere around the middle of this 5 hour drive.

Why:
Drive your Fiero on the roads that were made specifically for a mid engine sports car.
Meet other Fiero enthusiasts.
See a large variety of Fieros from stock to full custom...and from "mint" to "rode hard and put away wet".
Observe several engine swaps in action.

When:
Third weekend of September
Friday, Sep 19:
   Arrive at the hotel
   Relax and prepare
Saturday, Sep 20:
   Driver meeting 8:30 am
   Drive out 9:00 am
Get back to the Hotel, relax, recollect, and agree that we must do it again.
Sunday, Sep 21:
   Drive home

Where:
Hotel:
   Carolina Country Inn
   http://www.carolinacountryinn.com/
   600 W Main St
   Burnsville, NC 28714
   (828) 682-6033

Rooms are $65 per night.  There are doubles and kings available.

Lunch:
   The Red Onion
   http://www.theredonioncafe.com/
   227 Hardin St
   Boone, NC 28607
   (828) 264-5470

A few important notes:
We run three groups of cars.  The sightseers, the performance group, and those that suffer from insanity.  We put the faster drivers in front, and have regular stops to let everyone catch up.

These are tight mountain roads.  There are lots of hills, lots of blind curves, and plenty of cliffs with no guardrails.  Your brakes and suspension should be in good working order, regardless of which group you will be running in.

Safety is a primary concern for Run For The Hills.  This is a cruise, not a race.  Although I am sure a few of us will break the speed limit, it is not needed or encouraged.  Most of the roads will be a 55mph limit, and most of the curves are too tight to maintain that 55mph.

You do not need a high performance Fiero to join us.  I will be driving an 84 Sport Coupe with a stock duke/auto and stock suspension...and there is a good chance I will be leading the insane group for at least a portion of this run.
You can't fix stupid but, you can adjust it with a 2x4.

It appears that I will not be able to make this year's Run For The Hills.  I would like to make this offer:

I have a room reserved for Friday evening through Sunday morning.  I am willing to give someone my room if you cannot attend due to expenses.  If you can afford the gas to do the event and a McDonalds for each meal, but won't attend because of hotel costs, I will give you my room which has 2 double beds.  Club members who have paid their dues for 2014 will have first opportunity, then associate members.  By associate members, I mean those who attend meetings or events from time to time but haven't paid dues.

I will have sole discretion in choosing the recipient.  I need to know prior to September 6.

The runs just keep getting better and better every year.  Greg and Darrel have laid out a marvelous run.  This isn't an event you will want to miss.

Email me at cmmsewell 'at' gmail dot com if you would like to participate.

To order your event tshirt, go to the side bar on left side of this page and click on Club Merchandise.  That will take you to a link to place your order.

Scott, I've already given the room to someone else.  It might be possible that you could share the room with them if they aren't taking someone along.  I'll check and let you know when I call.  Probably tonight.

Anyone else ordered shirts or are going to order shirts?  You only have a week left.

The t-shirts for the RFTH 19 are now in my possession.

They look pretty darn good! Especially mine when I'm wearing it.

Many thanks go out to Shawn Kinnear for the artwork, Fiero GTB for his layout expertise and Fierofool for the arrangements and coordination.

I believe that everyone will be pleased with them.
They will be delivered at the hotel (inn) on Friday.

You can get yours early if you leave a shoebox full of unmarked, non-sequential twenties in my mailbox (;-P)

I haven't seen nor heard any mention of anyone caravaning up on Friday.  Is everyone going to go it alone?

There are some long uphill stretches in the event.  As a suggestion, you may want to remove your thermostat when you get to Burnsville.  Also, if you have AC, disconnect the cycle switch on the AC accumulator so you can activate the AC button to cause the cooling fan to run, without putting a load on the engine.  The weather up there is forecast to be in the mid 70's and partly cloudy.  With 75 being the daytime high, it might be a little cool at night, so a jacket or sweater might be in order.
