WARRIOR PROJECT DEDICATON ATTENDANCE
« on: July 04, 2015, 10:46:25 pm »
On August 1, 2015, the Georgia Fiero Club ( http://www.gafiero.org/bbs/index.php )will be donating a 1988 Pontiac Fiero GT to a Veteran identified by the Aiken/Augusta Warrior Project.  The hand over will happen at Cars & Coffee ( https://www.facebook.com/CarsandCoffeeAugusta ), around 0930-1000. Located at:
3830 Washington Rd, Augusta, GA 30907

Paul had the suggestion that we get a good group of Fieros to attend the dedication of the Warrior Project Car at the August 1 Cars and Coffee show in Augusta.

He suggested the possibility of us arriving on Friday and spending the night at one of the local motels, among them was LaQuinta Inn.  Current rates start at $59 per night.  Just on the other side of I-20 is the Motel 6 and their rates start at $41 per night.  If we group together and share rooms, we can stay for $20-$40 per person.  It's probably too late to try to arrange group rates, but at those prices, I don't think we need to.

I plan to drive down on Friday evening and will get a room with 2 double beds.  Anyone want to share a room?  We would like to have as many Fieros as possible at the show.  Paul will block off some spaces up front so we can all be together, but he needs to know how many spaces to save for us.

If you plan to go and are willing to share rooms with others, put your name on the list.  How about July 25th as the cut off date so we can be sure rooms will be available for us.

I will be attending the Warrior Project Car Dedication in Augusta on August 1 and staying overnight on July 31:
NAME
Charles--Willing to share a room
Pat (TopNotch) (might be rooming with Charlie)

I will be attending but will arrive on the morning of August 1 for the dedication:

There are three kinds of men:

1.    The ones that learn by reading.
2.    The few who learn by observation.
3.    The rest of them have to pee on the electric fence and find out for themselves.    Will Rogers

I've been e-mailing the Cars & Coffee coordinator.  He stays at the Sleep Inn on Claussen Rd (In the same area as Exit 199 & Washington Rd).  He also stated to "... contact the GM Atul Sinha, he may give them a little discount if you mention coming to C&C."

Darrel Hulse would like to know if he could share a ride and room with someone.  He isn't registered on the forum, so just post your answer here and he will see it.

So far Pat and I and Ron if he can arrange time off are the only ones from up here that are going.  Whether you worked on the car or not this is your club and you deserve the recognition.  Come and participate in the dedication.  Surely you can spare a few hours of your weekend in return for what this serviceman has given for America.

People,

The guy who runs Coffee & Cars just sent me this info:

(He) got a deal at the Sleep inn for 20% off room making it abt $55 a night and it's pretty nice. If they wanna change they can just call
and ask for the coffee and cars rate. Sleep inn is now the official hotel for C&C patrons
Quality inn is its sister hotel next to it and they are $40 or so a night and still abut nicer than la Quinta, just a heads up

Sounds like a nice deal to me.

For dinner Friday night, I found 2 places close by the LaQuinta.  Applebee's has good food and a variety, plus they have beer and spirits if anyone wishes.  Just a short distance up the road is Taqueria El Patron, which according to reviews is Mexican food that is more of the traditional Mexican style as opposed to what is normally served in Mexican restaurants.  I'm sure they have a serving license, too.  It wouldn't be a Mexican restaurant without Dos XX or Jose Quervo.

Partially corrected news story.  I posted a comment to further clarify.  I haven't found the channel 12 storyline, yet.
