hey charlie sorry i haven't been able to get back to you my computor is in the shop and i had to wait till i got back to work to use this computor(which i am not supposed to)but thanks for holding the parts. don't know when i'll see ya with no meeting on 3/14/2009 . i'm trying to put a low temp cooling fan switch in the 85 but i'm having trouble. the top brass part i can see and i can get to but the wire end goes down under some fuel lines and i can't see or reach to find out where its going. what does that end hook to?     oldone in c'ville

I can't help you on this one.  I don't even know where the fan switch is located.

I'm not sure what you're looking at, but the wire connects to the top of the fan switch. You have to reach down with some LONG needle nose pliers and squeeze the sides of the connector to release it. It's really not that hard to do, but it's hard to explain exactly.
I changed the fan switch on my 86 SE twice. The first one I put in was too cold, and the fan ran all of the time. The 2nd one was Rodney's 210/200 degree switch, which is perfect for the stock (195 degree) thermostat. The stock switch is 235/225, which comes on too late (IMHO).
Edit: I think I have another 210/200 switch at home somewhere. I bought two before I found out that my other car (88 duke) doesn't have a fan switch. Rodney sells them for $19 plus $3.50 s/h. Anybody want to come by and buy mine for $20?

thanks pat but what i'm looking at is the brass sending unit screws in the top of the motor right behind the thermostat housing. theres a gray plug that hooks onto the brass unit then on the other end of the wire(green) from the gray plug is a black plug that goes(on mine)down under a couple of fuel lines and under the top radiator hose and must plug into something. i also ordered a low temp thermostat and low temp switch for the 88- you say the 88 doesn't use a fan switch?      oldone in c'ville

It sound like you're talking about the same thing I'm talking about. But your car may have an aftermarket-type switch, which uses a different kind of connector. The Fiero Store sells the aftermarket kind, I think. Rodney Dickman sells OEM-type units. If you have the aftermarket kind, your original connector would plug into an adapter with a short wire. The other end would plug onto your switch.
The 88 duke has no switch because the ECM controls the fan. The 88 V6 does have a switch.

thanks guys the trouble i was having was the wire going from the switch, i couldn't see where it was going so i called fiero factory, the guy there their kit(the one pictured) was supposed to plug in to the switch and the other end was to plug in to the old wire going to your old switch, but that new pigtail of theirs wasn't made to plug into that old plug on mine , so i just put in the new switch and pigtail and spliced the new one into the old one that i couldn't tell where it was going. i think its going to a bigger wiring harness going to the front.             oldone in c'ville

What does the end look like on the stock fan switch?

The fan switch shown above is what the stock switch looks like.  Rodney's replacement switches look the same, as do images shown on the major discount auto parts stores websites.  I have no idea what TFF sent Dewey.

I'm trying to figure out why the adapter is needed.  I have the TFS fan switch.  No adapter came with it.

I found out a few things about this:
1. The L4 switch is no longer available
2. The Hypertech switch did have the adapter, but is no longer available
3. The current switch plugs right in.  No adapter is needed
