Deck Spring -- How do I fix this (picture)?
« on: December 13, 2015, 05:23:04 pm »
On one of the grandkid's cars, I tried pulling the spring back with a ratchet strap, because you have to prop the deck open with a stick. The whole thing popped out, as in this picture.

How can I fix this?

The more complex the mind, the greater the need for the simplicity of play.

That looks familiar ;)
I think Pgackerman and I used a 2×4 , one end under the spring, pushing up and the other end hanging out past the tail lights, to push down on, making a lever. A lot of cussing will coax it back into position.
I told Pgackerman it was a five minute job. About an hour later, we had a good laugh, except it wasn't funny.

My memory has warmed up a little bit now. The board was to push and maneuver, while the ratchet strap was to pull in order to rotate the end and then push back up into position Again. I think that's what we did.

Someone once posted a fix for this on this site. It may have been Tha Driver; I'm not sure.
You can't fix stupid but, you can adjust it with a 2x4.

There are three kinds of men:

1.    The ones that learn by reading.
2.    The few who learn by observation.
3.    The rest of them have to pee on the electric fence and find out for themselves.    Will Rogers

F85gtron forgot to mention we also needed a Land Rover, the sun to go down, and his son to run around with the flashlight; in addition to a 10' 2x4.

Fun to laugh about now.   ;D
