Window sticker
« on: January 09, 2017, 01:04:35 pm »
Does anyone make the window stickers?  I know in theory you can get a factory reproduction, but I want to change some wording.  This is just for fun, but I want it to look authentic.  I still have my original window sticker, but I want to update a few things.  I want to use the original fonts, images, and layout for my 1988 GT.

I know that there is an ebay one, but it is very wrong.  If you look closely, the 1988 Formula sticker has 1984 down by the economy numbers.  There are other issues, but that is the most glaring.

I've seen a conversion program where you can scan a document to a file, like maybe a bitmap, and convert it to an editable Word document.  It may have been in my Epson flatbed, or my HP 4 N 1 printer.

Yeah, but the file requires a lot of cleanup.  As JohnWPB discovered, there are font issues.  The images also don't come through correctly.  When printing back out, it's a pain.  Yes, I could start from scratch, and make something that was OK, but it would take a lot of time.  Also, I'd need the original graphics, which I don't really have.

So, I wanted to see if anyone else had already done this.

I have a program called PDFill, that lets you edit a PDF file, even if it was made from a scanned graphic. With it, you can "white out" any part of the PDF, and enter new text, using any font you already have or can get for your computer. Maybe that would work to make an edited window sticker.

I have the entire Adobe CS, complete with Acrobat Pro, which yes, has that functionality.  I have several programs that allow additional functionality, but again, there is the font issue.  I don't know what the correct fonts are.

I'm looking to see if anyone has already done this, rather than re-invent the wheel.

I have found that I can identify a font by placing the cursor within a copy line and clicking and it will display the name and point size in the boxes at the top.  That might work for you.  Have you checked to see if anyone on PFF or other forums might have a good clean copy they could scan for a master?

I have my original.  It's clean.  It tells me what font it is using, but that isn't the font on the paper.

I have come across several versions of window stickers: monochrome, with some red, and with red and blue.  Which is correct?

How about this?

I think my "original" is a photocopy, but it's all black, so I colorized this one.  Maybe a few modern touches.

I thought I was a paid member, but this is the kind of window sticker you see on new cars at the dealership.

An impressive list of equipment.  I did notice that the information for the 3.4 H.O engine was listed at 140 HP.  It's actually rated at 160 HP.

You said you suspect your sticker is a photocopy.  Could be.  Dealers used to, and probably still, make copies of the base sticker, then retype the information on it and add dealer installed options as if they were on the vehicle from the factory.  In New England, the most popular item 'from the factory' was Ziebart Rustproofing.

We ordered a Grand Am locally and it came in with floor mats, paint protectant, upholstery protectant and some other stuff listed as options from the factory.  We didn't order the options and refused to pay for them.  Got them for free.  Upholstery and paint protectants aren't applied at the factory.

Thanks.  I see a few other things that need to be fixed, as well.

My question remains: is it supposed to be color, or black?

Color
Blue if I remember correctly.
You can't fix stupid but, you can adjust it with a 2x4.

Blue?  Where does the blue go?  I red-ized this one.  I also included the watermark and made the other corrections.
