Pre 88 front suspension upper a-arm pivot bolt mount loose!
« on: March 06, 2017, 09:57:06 am »
On my 85, the upper a-arm pivot bolt sheath is loose. With it loose, it allows caster to move a few degrees forward and aft.  I don't notice it while driving, but it needs to be fixed.  Obviously, I need to weld it, but how best to do it and in what position is best?  Caster angles are what for pre 88?

My wife won't ride in it. It's "the other woman" ;)

I had the identical problem when I had my 84 convertible, although it probably wasn't bad enough to hose the alignment.
I had thought about drilling and sleeving that tube. Ended up selling the car before I did anything with it.

Apparently the 88 rear knuckles had a similar issue. The "long bolt" would wiggle around in the hole, messing up the alignment.
Rodney Dickman came up with a clamp/girdle affair that stopped the bolt from moving around. You might be able to fabricate something like that.
