Meetings
« on: March 07, 2017, 11:24:37 pm »
Are the meetings formal, with call to order, reading the notes, old business, new business, recognition, etc?

The voting seems to be informal.  Are motions also informal, or do you require a second?

It's pretty informal.  Sometimes too informal when groups start their own conversations while the meeting is going on.
There are three kinds of men:

1.    The ones that learn by reading.
2.    The few who learn by observation.
3.    The rest of them have to pee on the electric fence and find out for themselves.    Will Rogers

Yeah, that is very frustrating--especially as time runs over and you have urgent business.

Voting requires a motion and a second.  Only dues paying members may vote but during discussion, all present may participate.  They may even make proposals that the club might vote on.  Board of Directors meetings allow everyone to be present, but only Board members participate in the meeting discussions and voting.  Board actions usually pertain to approval or rejection of requests by the club officers to spend money above and beyond the allowed limit.  Things such as sending flowers to a sick or deceased person, parts for project cars, entry fees for events, etc.

How many people do you usually get at the meetings?

Usually everybody that shows up is there.
You can't fix stupid but, you can adjust it with a 2x4.

Usually everybody that shows up is there.

That answer would work, had I asked ”Who is there for meetings?”  Since I specified a quantifier (many), not so much.

Kind of like when people call my work...
"You working today?"
"Well... at least I'm here."

I usually tell them I checked my work orders for the day and 'give a damn' was not one of them.

There were 6 people at the meeting today -- 7 if you count Scott, who joined by phone. We decided to sell the club car (88 4-cylindar Fiero). There will probably be more about that later, from Fierofool, who currently possesses the car.
The more complex the mind, the greater the need for the simplicity of play.

Thanks for the info.  I commend the people who make these meetings--especially the regulars, and those who have been doing this all these years.  Food for thought for the next 20 years.

As far as the car, it seemed to be mostly unused.  It was a good idea, but underutilized.  Of course, it was probably used more than was evident from the posts here.

Do you guys really have 3 meetups on Saturdays, during the warm months, or was that last year only?

Linda, I get the impression that you're very practical.
