Does anyone know what year this prototype was painted?

I know it's supposedly an '84, and the gold color looks a bit "off", but have no other details.









I'm also curious what happened to it.

The car is shown in Gary Witzenburg's book about the Fiero.  Just that it's a prototype Roadster.

Did you ever see the 86-87 GTs or SEs when they were new?
They almost looked that rich, before they got sun baked. It would be interesting to see the paint code.

In Witzenburg's book, the original is shown with what appears to be the 86-87 gold color and bumper pad trim.  The color appears very close to another picture of an 87, describing the gold package.  It appeared in the summer of 83.  Then right beside it is the Roadster, described as the same car with different nose, lower trim and quarters, and different color.  It's a much deeper, richer gold.  It appeared in late 84 and was built strictly for the show circuit.  Neither version ever had a top of any kind.

I'm confused.  The '87 appeared in the summer of '83?

No.  The original gold convertible roadster appeared in 83.  The repainted and retrimmed darker gold convertible roadster version appeared in 84.  There is a third picture of an 87SE, with the description of the gold trim package that I was comparing the roadster paint jobs to.
