1985 Fiero - $6500 (Jasper) V8, power steering, new paint...
« on: October 20, 2017, 08:49:31 pm »

Not mine: https://atlanta.craigslist.org/nat/cto/d/1985-fiero/6348937637.html

I am 75 years old and I am going to sell my Fiero and let some body else have fun with it.
I have had the car for a number of years and have done many modification to make is fun, reliable car. Some of the changes include.
It has a 1991 Cadillac 4.6 engine and 4t60e 4 speed automatic trans with overdrive.
I replaced the brakes with s10 power brake booster and ventilated front rotors. New rotors and Calipers all the way round.
I have added Saturn electric power steering, if you have driven a Fiero you know that is a major positive change.
I have changed the power window motors and the electric head light doors
The air conditioner has been completely rebuilt . It blows very COLD
It has an aluminum radiator with a high volume electric fan.
I recently had the entire car painted.
It is a great car and is for sale for less than the price of the modification.
Call if you are interested in it.
Red '88 GT 5-Speed, 7730ECM, 1.6 Rockers, and KEYLESS Entry!
Now with a trailer hitch for my bike rack.

The ad says "4.6 Cadillac". It's a 4.9, though.  The 4.6 was a Northstar, which this is not.
It still looks nice.

It really surprises me. All of these "Atlanta / North GA area" Fieros that I have never seen before. But I guess that not everyone is on here or on Pennocks.

Saturn electric power steering?
You can't fix stupid but, you can adjust it with a 2x4.

Some say that Saturn EPS is very close to what the Fiero EPS was, in size and design.
There are three kinds of men:

1.    The ones that learn by reading.
2.    The few who learn by observation.
3.    The rest of them have to pee on the electric fence and find out for themselves.    Will Rogers

As I think on it, Saturn inherited a lot from the Fiero.

The Saturn EPS units - at least the ones that I've seen - were mounted on the column, under the dash.
It still drives a regular rack and pinion. The Fiero system used a hydraulic (conventional) power steering rack. with an external pump.
More like the F-body and Corvette power racks that people are retrofitting.
The advantage of the conventional PS rack is the faster ratios that are available. The Saturn system retains the "slower" Fiero ratios. Still a sweet setup, though.

I thought the early Saturn systems were conventional.  I don't always remember what I read.  I think Scott is doing the one mounted on the column.

Yes, I am going to attempt to put a Saturn Vue power EPS in my car. I have the mechanical parts but lack the electrical controller. This may get put at the bottom of the priority list as we are closing on a house next week and the honey do list is already 10000 miles long.

Did some wiki-ing.  Did a '91 4.9V8 only produced 200HP?

Yes.  But it's a very torquey engine.  Some say that's the reason they went with 3800's.  Melanie's Grand Prix had the 3800NA at 210 hp but one thing it didn't have was that V8 sound.

Still think I'd go with a modern 4-banger producing 200+ HP with a lot less weight, more room in the engine bay, and better mileage.

hey raydar do you remember driving this car a few years back right after the guy got it. he says you drove it just after he got it at one of our meetings. he says it looked different then had a wing and some other stuff on it and he said when you got back you ran into a concrete block or parking space stop or something and cracked the front valance or something?

in response to pgackerman what modern 4-banger producing 200 +hp and a lot less weight more room in the engine bay and better mileage would you suggest and how hard would the swap be?
