July 18th Do Something Day
« on: June 13, 2009, 04:07:23 pm »
I have approached the Peach State Kappa Club about doing a sightseeing cruise through Highlands, Cashiers, and the Nantahala and Pisgah National Forests toward Brevard, NC, and back.  I've heard nothing from them, so if they don't respond, I plan to do a documentation cruise of the upcoming RFTH 14 route which will take us through The Tail of The Dragon and back.  Of course, if we're too slow for you, you're welcome to go ahead and wait on us at any point along the route.

Clayton, Georgia is a good place to meet for either cruise.  We can top off our fuel tanks in Georgia before heading into the Carolinas.  The Burger King in Clayton seems to be a good place to meet.  The east of Atlanta folks can come up I-985 which becomes US 441 and runs right into Clayton.  Those west of Atlanta can come up I-575 which changes to US 76 and runs right into the Burger King in Clayton.

If you'd like to go, post your intentions here.  I'd like to pull out of Clayton sometime around 9AM on July 18th.  As always, we try to bring along our FRS radios for car to car communication.

That's the same day we've planned our club cookout so we won't be able to make it.

Robbie, I'm sorry.  I had planned to come to your cookout, but I forgot about it.  I had scheduled it at the meeting, and with the Kappa Club.

There are already several who've signed on.  Even though I asked that they reply here, I got phone calls.  Go Figger.

We will be meeting at the QT gas station in Oakwood.  It's at Exit 16, Hwy 53, Oakwood exit off I-985, just up the hill from the Xway.  We can top off our tanks there and pull out around 7am.

We'll drive up to Clayton and top our tanks again at the RaceTrac station to take advantage of the lower Georgia gas prices.  We should be there by 8:30.

From there, we will drive up to Franklin, NC.  Approaching Franklin, going up the hill before you get to the Hwy 64 intersection, you cross a small stream with a bridge.  The next drive on the right goes into a big arcade.  That's where we'll gather up.  If you miss that, turn at the MicroTel Inn and service station and come around the road to the back entrance.

To bring up to date who's going:

Kevin
Pat
Don
Raydar
Seth?
Bill & Tamara Timothy
85GT?
John & Joy Upchurch
Ray
Fierofool
Andy?
The new guy from Henry County?  Sorry, don't remember your name.

Anyone I've missed?
