Yeah. I'm with you on the tested and true technology. Besides, I like hearing the symphony of my engine.
I put 60,xxx miles on a 2012 Volt base. A tractor-trailer missed a turn, and no more Volt. Insurance bought a 2014 Volt premium. It has 50K miles on it, now. Only issue was it had a firmware issue. The Volts do not belong to me, but have a 0-60 of 7.8 seconds, just like the Fiero. In performance mode, the Volt still couldn't hang with the Fiero, on the road.
As for the battery packs, it didn't seem that there was any change. I've heard numbers, like 2%, but yes, I expect the batteries will fall off significantly, after a while.
