Fiero steering column
« on: February 04, 2018, 04:01:52 pm »
Im needing to replace my column since theres about 40 degrees of steering play in the tilt joint. Havent rebuilt one yet so im going to put a new one in for now and rebuild my old one. Im looking at columns on ebay, does it matter if it comes from a manual or auto car?

Yes, it matters, although the column can be modified.  It is possible that the bolts on your column are just loose.

My manual car has an automatic column. You will just need to remove the cable that goes to the shifter interlock.
With that said, be careful if you ever have to "shut down" while it's in motion. It does not have the key release lever, so it's easy to go all the way to "lock" and lock up the steering.

Its not the tilt that has play it is the steering itself!

The bolts that everyone is talking about will not affect the tilt mechanism, they make the steering very sloppy. Its not that bad of a job to fix, but you do have to tear the column down
