Jason, Jordan, Lexus, Tegan and Charlie enjoyed themselves immensely. Two new converts in the persons of Lexy and Tegan.
Periodic rain, pea soup on the Cherohala Skyway, and I almost got two bicyclists again.
The back mountain roads were heavily covered with leaves and in some places had dirt and gravel in the roadway. No traffic holdups anywhere except the last half of Hwy 28 on the return portion.
As we were going up the Cherohala, I caught sight of a guy standing up high on an overlook that was trying to get his camera trained on us as we scooted by. At mile marker 2, we stopped at an overlook that had restrooms. As we were leaving, a truck pulled in, rolled down his window and was taking pictures of us as we were leaving.
As we worked our way around and through The Dragon, we stopped at the souvenir shop across from The Dragon's Den. Next thing I knew the back end of Jason's GT had been mobbed. There was also another guy there from Cleveland, TN with a 3800SC that he estimated to be near 400HP. He said he was on The Dragon the same day we did our RFTH. Knows CowsPatoot, too.
With the weather being what it was, I didn't expect Killboy to be out there, but I guess he heard we were coming so he bundled up in his rain gear and had his cameras ready.
When we left, traveling on Hwy 28, on the portion south of US 74, we passed a couple standing at an overlook. The guy actually spun all the way around as he watched us pass. They were in a Fiat Spider 124 Convertible.
Next thing I knew, he was right behind us. This is the area where we were being held back by a couple of vehicles, but as soon as they cleared the roadway, we took off. The Fiat joined in the chase, but the Spider just couldn't keep pace with the Pegasus's. He would catch us on long straights but fall behind on the curves. I know nothing about the Spider's capabilities but it sure made me feel good to see us leave him behind.
As we approached Franklin, we moved into a right turn lane I gave the Fiat a thumbs up as they passed. The lady had a huge grin and appeared to break into a laugh. Seems they enjoyed it, too.
Tegan and I left the house at 7:30 AM and got home at 8:15 PM.
