I do not understand who anyone would add good gas to bad gas, then run that bad gas through their fuel system to their engine.  It would seem that this could only make things worse.

When we got the fastback, I worked on it until I got it to run.  It was showing that it didn't have much gas in it, so I put a few gallons into it at a time, drove the car up and down my street and sometimes around a couple of blocks in the subdivision.  Eventually, the stale smell went away as the new gas absorbed the old.

Not knowing the condition of the tank, we eventually found that the inside was in horrible condition and the superfine rust actually passed through the strainer and filter and plugged up the inlet of several injectors.  That led to the replacement of the injectors, pump, sending unit and tank.

If you had it to do over again, would you do the same thing, or would you pump out the tank first?

In re-watching part 2 of this video, I noticed that the wires on the ajar switch for the trunk move when the ajar switch is depressed.  Is this typical?

Also in part 2, they remove the fuel pump from the tank, and run the pump without fuel...lubricant/coolant.   Hmmm.

Yes, they do move.  One of the wires is actually attached to the bottom of the plunger.

I have to wonder if this causes problems with the wires.

I never answered your question.  I would probably do the same thing again mostly because I'm not able to do the work.  Had the sock on the fuel pump not had a split in it, the fine stuff probably wouldn't have gotten through the filter and to the injectors.  As for pumping it out, I don't think it's possible to get all the way to the bottom of the tank, past the baffles.  Even with the tank removed, it took a good bit of washing and sloshing to get it out when Roger and I replaced the fuel pump and sock.

And for the wires on the Ajar switch, they are insulated and separated at the bottom.  One is stationary and only the one on the bottom of the plunger moves.  It's identical to the one in the front compartment.

Edit: Added the missing bracket for you.

It would seem that you could disconnect the feed line from the fuel rail, then jumper the fuel pump to get most of the fuel out.  Yes, getting that last gallon out is a pain.

Added part 5.  I thought the part about replacing the seat cushions was not supposed to be shown.
