GT Sail Glass

I've read through a handful of threads about vendors for both sides for the GT.  Anyone have an updated quality vendor?

Someone had mentioned having an issue with some TFS glass.

I have purchased TFS windows through a reseller.  I knew they were from TFS because one had TFS information on a sticker applied to its outside surface.  This was probably 8 years ago, at least and the windows were junk. The ink would scratch off easily and the black background was full of trash.

I returned them and purchased windows from Chris Cook, known as gtfiero on eBay.  They were printed with the correct ink so it wouldn't peel off after the window was mounted.  The drawback, as with any reproduction windows of that time is that they didn't have the proper curves.  Some have reported variations in size, creating installation issues.  I had none of the installation problems and they fit well.

I am reading that TFS now has a window that better replicates the original factory windows, at least as far as the complex curves.  I don't know if the proper ink was used to prevent delamination.  I've never possessed a pair of those windows.

Purchased from Chris Cook through Ebay.  Thanks for the recommendation.  I'll post the results.

When you install the windows, leave some gaps in the tape along the bottom edges of the windows.  Maybe 2 or 3 1/4 inch gaps along it's length.  No need to leave any at the top.  This helps to drain water from the bottom.  Ponding water can freeze in the winter and crack or push the bottom of the window loose.  I noticed that when I removed my old windows, that they had spaces instead of a continuous strip.

If you still have marks on the body of the car showing where the old tape was applied, be sure to place your tape in the same areas, especially toward the front.  It will keep the wind from lifting the front of the window and peeling it away.  You may also want to let them bake in the sun for a day before driving after application.

I applied the tape to the body of the car and then pulled a little of the liner up to protrude out around the edge of the window.  That way I could position the window and have a helper hold it in place.  I pulled the liner tab and the window bonded to the tape.

TFS sells Chris Cook's quarter windows, at this time.  They also sell a recent design, by Fred Bartmeyer and John Callies, I believe.

Chris Cook's windows have had fitment issues, and do not have the correct curve.  The new windows have the correct curve, and are done correctly.  The only issue is that they are a bit greenish, and the GT logo appears greenish.

Thank you, everyone!  Glass ordered, arrived, and installed. Followed all the suggestions, including leaving drainage paths.

It absolutely looks beautiful!  I need to replace the dew strips along the windows and rattle can the vents, but it's really close.

Where are you located?  Come to the meeting Saturday and I'll loan you a dew wipe replacement tool.  Makes the job much easier.

Edit:  Just read your introduction.  I know where you're located.  Let me know if you're coming so I'm sure to bring the tool.

I'm in Canton, but I'll be attending the LIFT Conference for Music Ministries on Saturday. Won't be able to make this meeting.

Well, we're doing the RFTH scouting run on the 18th.  Come along and I'll bring the tool at that time.  A day of fun in the Asheville, NC area mountains to include part of the Blue Ridge Parkway.

I'm just wondering if the BRP is pronounced "burp".
